Pulp are turning a Sheffield pub into a one-day homecoming on Friday 30 October 2026. The band, with their label Rough Trade, have announced a takeover of the Hallamshire Hotel on West Street, timed for the day Pulp are added to the city's Sheffield Legends Walk of Fame.
For readers meeting the band for the first time: Pulp are the Sheffield group fronted by Jarvis Cocker, best known for "Common People" and the 1995 album Different Class. The Hallamshire is where it started. The band played their first pub gig there in August 1980, and the room later became a fixture of the city's indie scene before reopening in April 2024 as a music venue.
What is happening on the day
- 12pm to 1pm: a meet and greet with drummer Nick Banks and keyboardist Candida Doyle.
- 12pm to 8pm: a pop-up shop selling limited edition t-shirts, posters, records and more, while stock lasts.
- 2pm: the Walk of Fame unveiling outside Sheffield Town Hall, a short walk from the pub. Pulp join local honourees including goalkeeper Gordon Banks, singer Joe Cocker, athlete Jessica Ennis and actor Sean Bean.
- From about 5.50pm: a quiz, raffle, karaoke and a fancy dress competition, with the karaoke session reported to start at 8pm.
Details on sign-ups and entry are being handled through the band's mailing list at welovepulp.info, which we could not load at the time of writing, so check there before travelling. We have not confirmed whether the meet and greet needs registration.
Why it matters
Pulp ran a similar pub pop-up in Manchester in August, with memorabilia, photographs and merch. Doing the Sheffield one in the room where the band first played makes it feel less like a promo stop and more like a thank you to the city.
Pulp were chosen for the Walk of Fame for their international success and cultural impact, and they sit alongside a mixed group of sportspeople and entertainers on the pavement outside the Town Hall.
If you are in South Yorkshire that Friday, the Hallamshire is the place to be by lunchtime. If not, we will keep an eye out for what the band share from the day.
