The Flaming Lips are back with a new record. The Teardrop Throbs arrives on Friday, 22 January 2027 on Third Man Records, Jack White's Nashville label, and it is the band's first all-new album in six years and their first release for the label.
For readers meeting them for the first time: the Oklahoma City band, fronted by Wayne Coyne, have spent four decades turning odd, tender psychedelic rock into stadium-sized joy, from The Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots to 2020's American Head. Their artist page has the rest.
What we know about the album
The Teardrop Throbs has 13 songs. Wayne Coyne says the band made it over about two years with longtime collaborator Dave Fridmann at his studio. The lead single, "God Will Control the Werewolves", premiered on 26 October 2026 and is streaming now.
The tracklist, as announced by Third Man Records:
- Throb
- God Will Control the Werewolves
- Titan
- Every Teardrop Cried
- Hooray
- Instructions on How to Draw an Eyeball or How to Deal With a Loved One Who Is Addicted to Drugs
- You See You in Me
- You've Got Brain Damage
- At the End of the Day
- The Trees Are Getting Their Leaves / Ceasefire in the City of Singing Flame
- Ego Tripping at the Gates of Hell Part Two
- A Sunset Far Away
- Now I Understand
Coyne wrote in the announcement that the first song on the record was also the first to show up in the two-year process, and that he does not want his songs to carry a fixed meaning, hoping listeners find their own. The album pre-order and pre-save are open now.
Two nights in every city
The tour is built as an "underplay" run: small rooms, two shows per city. Additional dates are promised.
- 22 and 23 January 2027: Nashville, Brooklyn Bowl
- 26 and 27 January: New York, Irving Plaza
- 23 and 24 February: Los Angeles, The Bellwether
- 27 and 28 February: Chicago, Metro

Tickets go on sale at 10am local time: the band pre-sale opens on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, local pre-sales follow on Thursday, 29 October, and general sale starts on Friday, 30 October. Details are on the band's tour page.
One thing to know
We have not yet heard the record, so this is a guide to what has been announced: the tracklist, dates and on-sale times above all come from the label's announcement.
