Elton John and CMAT give "Step Into Christmas" a second-wind duet, out on Amazon Music
The 1973 festive single returns as an Amazon Music Original with the Irish songwriter on vocals, the follow-up to last year's UK Christmas number one.

The Christmas single race has its first big duet. Elton John and CMAT have recorded a new version of "Step Into Christmas", the song he first released in 1973, and it is exclusive to Amazon Music as this year's Amazon Music Original holiday track.
CMAT is the Irish singer-songwriter behind the country-pop record Euro-Country, and her theatrical, big-chorus writing makes her a natural fit for a song built on a rock and roll shuffle and a singalong hook. The new version keeps that feel, adds her vocals and some fresh musical touches. Amazon's announcement does not credit a producer, so we are not naming one.
What they said
Elton John said in the announcement: "I've loved CMAT since I first heard her and saw her videos years ago." CMAT's line was a straight invitation: "I would like to invite the whole world to step into Christmas with us." Laura Lukanz, head of Amazon Music UK, said the company could not be prouder to share it exclusively with Amazon Music listeners.
Why it matters on the charts
The original peaked at number 24 on the UK singles chart in January 1974, but streaming has been kind to it: it climbed to number seven over the 2025 festive period. Amazon also has form here. Kylie Minogue's "XMAS", another Amazon Music Original, became the 2025 UK Christmas number one.
An exclusive means the song lives on one platform, which shapes what it can do on the official chart, so watch how it fares against the field in December. We will follow it.
You can hear the track on Amazon Music, and it also sits in the platform's Merry Mix holiday playlist.
