Fontaines D.C. release Dopamine Chamber on 16 October: what we know about the fifth album

Fontaines D.C. are eight days from their fifth album. Dopamine Chamber is due on Friday 16 October 2026 on XL Recordings, and the band's official site carries the date, with blue vinyl, black vinyl and deluxe vinyl editions listed.

For anyone meeting the band for the first time: Fontaines D.C. are a five-piece from Dublin who broke through with the post-punk of Dogrel in 2019 and have grown more ambitious with every record since. Their last album, Romance, came out in 2024, and the band have been touring it, and its successor's lead single, for most of this year.

The record

Dopamine Chamber has 11 songs and was again produced by James Ford, who worked on Romance. The band recorded in London, the English countryside and Palermo in Sicily. Singer Grian Chatten has described the title as the album itself: a chamber of constant small hits, which fits the themes the band have talked about, from artificial intelligence to environmental collapse and political violence travelling through the same feeds as memes and celebrity.

Chatten has also said that where Romance felt about 60 per cent human, this one feels closer to 60 per cent corrupted. Bassist Conor Deegan has pointed out that the band's albums have always questioned a sense of place, and this one asks where you escape to when the place itself is the problem.

The single

The lead single, "Marianne", arrived on 18 August 2026 alongside the album announcement. It is the clearest early signal of where the band are heading: a further step away from straight guitar rock, with the record leaning on synthesisers, samples and heavier percussion.

Where to see them next

Fontaines D.C. have already mapped out their live plans. Our earlier story covers the 2027 North American run and a first India date, and the band also feature on the Primavera Sound 2027 poster. Their artist page collects everything we have published on them.

We will have more on the album once it is out and we have had time with it. Until then, the date to circle is 16 October.
