David Bowie's unseen 1978 Earls Court concert becomes "Stage", an arena show opening in Berlin on 14 February 2027
Brett Morgen and the Bowie estate are turning never-screened 35mm footage into a touring immersive show, with a Berlin premiere and UK dates in 2027.

A David Bowie concert that has sat in the vault for almost 50 years is about to play to arenas. Stage is a new "global immersive experience" built from previously unseen 35mm footage of Bowie's summer 1978 shows at London's Earls Court, filmed on the tour that followed the "Heroes" album. It opens with a world premiere at Berlin's Uber Arena on 14 February 2027, in association with the 77th Berlin International Film Festival.
What Stage actually is
It is not a cinema release and it is not a hologram show. The restored footage plays on large screens alongside a purpose-built lightshow, an immersive audio mix and transparent LED screens, designed so the room feels like Bowie and his band are on stage in front of you. The lighting is by Patrick Woodroffe, the veteran designer behind tours for The Rolling Stones and Elton John, and the sound mix is by Academy Award winner Paul Massey, whose credits include Bohemian Rhapsody.
The project comes from filmmaker Brett Morgen, who made the Bowie documentary Moonage Daydream, together with the David Bowie Estate and the live-entertainment company Wonderworld. Morgen has said he came across the footage roughly a decade ago while researching that film. The idea of a standalone live show took shape in 2018 and gathered pace in 2024, when former AEG Live International president Rob Hallett came on board.

Why it matters
Bowie's 1978 tour is one of his most admired live periods: the band was sharp, the "Heroes" material was new, and the Earls Court run is remembered by those who were there as a high point. Until now, most fans have known it through bootlegs and a live album. Seeing it rebuilt at arena scale, from original film, is a new way to meet a show that was never meant to be forgotten.
