Powderfinger are getting back together. The Brisbane band confirmed on Friday 9 October 2026, in a video posted to their own channels, that they will play shows "all around Australia" from September 2027, 16 years after they called it a day.
What the band said
Singer Bernard Fanning fronts the short clip. "We always said that if we were going to get back together to do some shows, that you guys would be the first to know," he says, before confirming the plan: "We're going to do some shows all around Australia from September next year."
Guitarist Darren Middleton closes it out. "We're going to build something pretty special just for you guys," he says. "We'll see you from the stage."
What we do not know yet
The announcement confirms a reunion and a September 2027 start, and nothing more. Cities, venues, dates, ticket prices and the on-sale time are expected on the band's official site, powderfinger.com, at 6am AEDT on Monday 12 October 2026. We will add the dates to the ADMC gig guide as soon as they are live. There has been no word yet on new music or dates outside Australia.
Why it matters
For anyone meeting the band for the first time: Powderfinger were one of Australia's biggest rock groups of the 2000s, built on the 2000 album Odyssey Number Five and songs like "My Happiness" and "These Days". The lineup is Fanning, Middleton, Ian Haug on guitar, John Collins on bass and Jon Coghill on drums.
They announced their split in April 2010 and played their last show at Brisbane's Riverstage on 13 November 2010, closing the Sunsets farewell tour. That date appeared on billboards in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane this week, part of a teaser campaign that had fans guessing for days.
The band has not toured since. In May 2020 they reunited remotely for the One Night Lonely livestream, which raised more than A$500,000 for the charities Support Act and Beyond Blue. Until today, that was the closest fans had come to a full return.
Keep an eye on ADMC on Monday for the full run of dates.
