Kacey Musgraves sets Middle of Nowhere Vol. 2: Tex Mex Tapes for 15 January, with four songs in Spanish

Kacey Musgraves has announced a second helping of her 2026 record. Middle of Nowhere Vol. 2: Tex Mex Tapes arrives on 15 January 2027 through Lost Highway Records, and it leans hard into the border-country sounds that colour the first album.

The new set runs to 16 songs: 11 originals and five covers, four of them sung entirely in Spanish. It follows Middle of Nowhere, which came out on 1 May 2026 and was built around her Texas roots, with country, Western swing, bluegrass and regional Mexican styles all in the mix. You can see the pre-release listing on Apple Music.

What is on it

Two songs landed at midnight on Friday 23 October: "Weekend in Texas" and her take on "Mi Tesoro", a norteño standard. Also confirmed are:

• "Uncertain, TX (Spanish Version)" with Intocable, the Texas-born norteño group. She released that one on 5 October, and it is a Spanish re-recording of a song from Middle of Nowhere.
• "Tú Solo Tú", recorded live in Mexico City with Mariachi Oro de América.
• "All My Exes (Kacey's Version)", a cover of George Strait's "All My Exes Live in Texas".
• "Before the Next Teardrop Falls", the Freddy Fender country-Tejano classic.
• "(Hey Baby) Qué Pasó?", "Caballero", "Rodeo" and "Pretty Horses".

The full tracklist and the producer credits have not been published yet, so we will not guess at them.

Why it matters

Country and Mexican regional music have shared a border for a very long time, and Musgraves is now writing in both languages rather than borrowing a flavour. The Tejano and norteño tradition she is covering is the music of South Texas dance halls, built on accordion and bajo sexto, and Intocable have been one of its biggest acts for decades.

She is also still on the road behind the first album. For live dates, see our earlier story on Roskilde 2027, where she is on the bill.
