Vybz Kartel announces The Sun, a new album due 18 December
Months after God & Time, the dancehall star says The Sun is next, the first of a planned album series. Here is what is confirmed and what is not.
If you have only met dancehall through a Bollywood remix or a Drake feature, Vybz Kartel is the name worth knowing. The Jamaican deejay has been one of the genre's defining voices for more than fifteen years, and he is not slowing down: he has now announced a second album for 2026.
What has been announced
Kartel shared the news on his Instagram Story with promotional artwork saying he is "dropping another new album called The Sun". The date on the artwork is 18 December 2026, according to World Music Views, which reported the announcement on 1 October 2026. We have not found a pre-save link, label announcement or tracklist yet, so treat the date as the artist's own and subject to change.
ZIP103 FM in Jamaica published a separate report on 2 October 2026, citing an interview Kartel gave to The Zee. It says The Sun is meant to be the first entry in a themed series called The Universe, with The Moon and The Star to follow and possibly The Galaxy. That series plan comes from the interview as relayed by ZIP103 FM, and we have not heard it from Kartel directly.
What is reported but not confirmed
Kaboom Magazine says The Sun will run to around 16 tracks and was made with producer Chambah Music. Neither detail has been confirmed by Kartel or a label, and no features have been named.
The context: God & Time
The Sun follows God & Time, which came out on 5 June 2026. That record featured Wizkid, Mavado, Spice, Shenseea, Skillibeng and Farruko, as DancehallMag reported ahead of its release. World Music Views describes it as the highest charting dancehall album of the year so far, and notes Kartel has debuted three projects on the Billboard reggae albums chart in the last two years.
Wizkid's appearance on God & Time is a handy way in if you know him from Afrobeats: it shows how closely the Caribbean and West African scenes now overlap.
What we will watch
A tracklist, a lead single and a confirmed release platform are the three things that will turn this from an announcement into a proper rollout. We will update when Kartel or his team share them.
