Olivia Rodrigo is releasing the first remix of her career, and she has called in Chappell Roan to share it. The "expectations" remix arrives on Thursday, 15 October 2026 at 5:00 p.m. Pacific time, which is 5:30 a.m. on Friday, 16 October in India and 1:00 a.m. on 16 October in London.
What is coming
A music video starring both singers premieres alongside the remix. It was directed by Bardia Zeinali. The remix was produced by Dan Niro, who also produced the original recording, so the new version stays close to the sound of the record it comes from.
"expectations" is a track from Rodrigo's third album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love. This is the first time she has put out a remix of one of her songs.
Physical editions are already up for pre-order: a limited 7-inch vinyl, a CD and a cassette.
Why the pairing makes sense
The two have history. Roan is a close friend and an occasional onstage guest, and she has sung backing vocals on Rodrigo's records before. Rodrigo's own fans will know her voice from "bad idea right?" and "obsessed" on GUTS, and the two have shared a stage for a live duet of Roan's "HOT TO GO!".
For Roan, who has spent the past two years as one of pop's biggest live draws, a remix on a friend's album cycle is a low-key way to land a new release before the end of the year. For Rodrigo, it gives a deep cut from her latest album a second life with a video, which usually means a song is about to get more attention.
We have not heard the remix yet, so we are not going to guess how different it sounds. We will update this story when it is out.
