Mithoon will reimagine Subhash Ghai's film songs with a 70-piece orchestra in Mumbai
Kya Zamaana Tha takes songs from Karz, Hero, Ram Lakhan, Pardes and Taal to Jio World Garden on 11 December 2026. Presale opens 3 October.
Composer Mithoon is taking on one of Hindi cinema's great songbooks. Kya Zamaana Tha: Subhash Ghai's Musical Legacy Reimagined by Mithoon is set for 11 December 2026 at Jio World Garden in Mumbai.
The show is presented by Mukta Arts, Ghai's production house, with EVA Live, and powered by Mastercard.
What is on the setlist
Mithoon will lead a 70-member orchestra through new arrangements of songs from Ghai's films, including Karz, Hero, Ram Lakhan, Khalnayak, Pardes, Taal and Yaadein. The organisers say the evening will mix the feel of the original era with a contemporary approach built for a big live stage.
It is not just a concert. Singers and actors linked to Ghai's films are expected to appear, and Ghai himself will share stories and memories from making them, with conversations about the films and their music woven into the night. The title is a nod to the spoken opening of "Ek Haseena Thi" from Karz.
Why Mithoon
The pairing runs deeper than a booking. Mithoon, the composer behind "Tum Hi Ho" from Aashiqui 2, comes from a family that helped shape this exact catalogue. His father, Naresh Sharma, was a music arranger and conductor, and his uncle is Pyarelal of Laxmikant-Pyarelal, the duo behind several of Ghai's biggest soundtracks. Speaking to ETV Bharat, Mithoon said he grew up listening to and studying those soundtracks, and that they shaped him as a composer.
In the official announcement, Ghai said music has always been at the emotional centre of his films, and that he was honoured to have Mithoon reimagine them. Mithoon called the project a personal and spiritual one, and a responsibility to carry these songs to a new generation at orchestral scale.
