Led Zeppelin finally clear "Stairway to Heaven" for the screen, in Greta Gerwig's Narnia trailer
Robert Plant and Jimmy Page have turned down film requests for decades. Gerwig's Narnia: The Magician's Nephew is the first to get a yes.

The first trailer for Narnia: The Magician's Nephew is set to Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven", one of the most protected songs in rock. It was unveiled on 14 October 2026, and Robert Plant and Jimmy Page have also agreed to let the song play in the film itself.
That is a big deal. The band has long declined to license the track for screens, and the refusals became part of rock lore. Cameron Crowe, for one, was famously turned down when he wanted it for Almost Famous.
What changed their minds
Writer and director Greta Gerwig has said she sat down with Plant and Page to talk through the film. She has described them as fans of C.S. Lewis and the Narnia books, and says they came round once they saw the story and the drama underneath it. Gerwig sees the song as being about the pull between good and evil, which is the spine of the story she is telling.
The song is a natural fit for the film's tone, too. The Magician's Nephew is the Narnia prequel, the book that shows how the world was created, and Gerwig has been open about wanting music to run through it. The score is by Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt.
The film
Daniel Craig plays the magician, Andrew Ketterley, and Emma Mackey plays Jadis, who becomes the White Witch. David McKenna and Beatrice Campbell play Digory and Polly, Carey Mulligan plays Digory's mother, and Meryl Streep voices Aslan.
It is also a landmark for Netflix: its first wide theatrical release. Cinemas get it for five weeks from 12 February 2027, and it arrives on the streamer on 2 April 2027.
For Led Zeppelin, the song needs no help. A trailer this prominent will send a new crowd to the 1971 original, though.
