If You Paid $650 to See Justin Bieber Doomscroll on His Laptop, Would You Not Be Mad?

It has been two decades since pop found its successor in Justin Bieber after Timberlake and MJ, and on Saturday we finally saw him headline Coachella after a two year live hiatus. Imagine Coachella being your comeback. Now that is motion.

So you and I have the same question. Was there any production budget involved?

The set started normally as he performed songs from "SWAG" and "SWAG 2," but then he pulled out his laptop, searched up iconic tracks like "Never Say Never," "One Less Lonely Girl" and of course "Baby," and hit the stage. Later he got distracted and doomscrolled old clips of himself. Well, we have something in common with a multimillionaire pop star at work.

There were no conventional backing tracks, just his MacBook and YouTube Premium. Side note, we agree with Katy Perry on this one.

The internet has been split over this, as is usually the case. Fans and publications are calling it lazy. Some think it is him avoiding a royalty payout. But we think it might be genius.

Bieber started his career on YouTube, and by searching those old videos up live, he was shouting out his come up. It was literally the culture of his rise back in 2008. Plus fans got to hear him sing his old stuff. Always a treat. It was the perfect way to deconstruct the idea of what a pop star is. When you have your whole childhood on display and a long, turbulent career, this was a full circle moment for those who got it.

People are angry because they want the teenage performer back, but they ignore the years of trauma and healing he has navigated since. Does it justify the price of the ticket? Probably not. But he does not have to be anything he does not want to be at this point in life, and that is a good thing.

Overall, cool. And if you are hating, we would love to see you make Timothee Chalamet and Kylie Jenner dance in the middle of a Californian desert.
