Journey drummer Deen Castronovo played a full show in San Antonio, Texas, on Saturday 10 October 2026, two nights after he was helped off the stage mid-concert in Oklahoma.
What happened in Tulsa
On Thursday 8 October, during the band's Final Frontier farewell tour date at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Castronovo, 62, was taken ill two songs into the set. The show paused briefly, he was taken to hospital, and longtime Journey drum tech Steve Toomey sat in for the rest of the night.
The band's representatives said only that he was not feeling well and was taken to hospital. No cause has been made public, and ADMC is not speculating on one. Guitarist Neal Schon said soon afterwards that Castronovo was doing great.
Back at the Frost Bank Center
Castronovo returned on Saturday at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio and played the whole concert. He also took lead vocals on three songs, "Lights", "Keep On Runnin'" and "Precious Time", and shared lead on "Just the Same Way" and "Anytime" with keyboardist Jonathan Cain. Schon has said Castronovo was back in rare form.
Castronovo is a drummer who also sings lead on several songs, so his return mattered beyond the rhythm section. Singer Arnel Pineda fronts the band.
The tour
The Final Frontier tour is billed as the band's farewell run and began in February 2026 in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Dates for the rest of the run are on the band's official site.
