Grimes has announced a new album, PSYOPERA, and put out its first single, "ACCELERANDO", made with the producer and artist VADAKIN. There is no release date yet.
PSYOPERA is the first Grimes album released on Nazgul Recording, her own label. It follows a long stretch of teasing: she has talked about the record for months, describing it as unfinished and built around the theme of artificial intelligence.
The single
"ACCELERANDO" is out now on streaming services, with a video due on YouTube. It pairs bright, girlish vocals with pulsing, ominous synths, and it tightens until Grimes lets out full-on shrieks. The announcement teaser has her saying "Welcome to the game", with on-screen text that reads "Please wait patiently for the failure of the system."
The AI question
The album's title and themes are AI-inspired, but Grimes has said the songs themselves are not AI-generated. That distinction matters in a year when streaming platforms and labels are still arguing over how to label machine-made music, and Grimes has been one of the artists most open about experimenting with the technology. She has said she does not use generative AI for the new music.
What we do not know yet
There is no tracklist, no release date and no list of producers or other guests beyond VADAKIN. We will update this story when they are announced.
Listen to "ACCELERANDO" on Apple Music.
