Court filings show a conditional settlement with Live Nation, C3 Presents and others, nearly five years after the rapper was killed at a Los Angeles festival.

The family of Drakeo the Ruler has settled its negligence claims against Live Nation over the rapper's death, according to legal filings made public this week. The terms have not been disclosed.
Drakeo, the Los Angeles rapper whose real name was Darrell Caldwell, was fatally stabbed on 18 December 2021 at the Once Upon a Time in LA festival at Exposition Park. He was 28. The festival was promoted by Live Nation's C3 Presents.
What the filing says
The notice describes the settlement as conditional, with specified terms to be met within 45 days of signing. The defendants named include Live Nation, C3 Presents, Bobby Dee Presents and Hollywood Elite Security, among others. Live Nation has not commented publicly.
Several lawsuits followed his death. His family filed a $20 million suit in January 2022, and days later the mother of his son Caiden filed a $60 million wrongful death claim on the boy's behalf. In February 2022 his brother, Ralfy the Plug, filed his own suit describing what it called a prolonged mob attack on the festival grounds.
We have not confirmed whether every one of those cases is covered by this settlement. Reports say a separate claim against Live Nation is still pending, and we will update this story when that is clear.
Why it matters
The case has become a reference point for the debate over security at hip-hop events, with the family arguing that organisers knew of safety risks and failed to act. A settlement means those arguments will not be tested in open court in this case, though the terms will stay private.
Drakeo, who rose out of the Stinc Team collective and was known for his slippery, unhurried flow, left behind a catalogue that rap fans in Los Angeles and beyond still treat as foundational. His 2020 remix of "Ion Rap Beef", with Earl Sweatshirt and 03 Greedo, is one of the songs that introduced him to a wider audience.
