Alanis Morissette has a Christmas album on the way. It is called Good Weather for Immaculate Conception, it runs to 14 songs, and it arrives with a guest list that reads like a very well-curated holiday party.
The Canadian singer-songwriter, who made her name with Jagged Little Pill in 1995, has been talking about a festive record since the autumn. She has said she wrote a couple of new songs and made the album with a handful of favourites, including a Judy Garland number she planned to sing with Martin Short. The release date has been given as 6 November 2026, though we have not yet seen it on an official release page, so treat it as not yet officially confirmed.
What is on it
The tracklist mixes carols, pop standards and two originals:
- "O Holy Night"
- "To An Empath at Christmas Time"
- "What Child Is This?"
- "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)"
- "Little Drummer Boy"
- "Beautiful Star of Bethlehem" (feat. Brandi Carlile and Steve Martin)
- "Ave Maria"
- "Christmas on the Dancefloor"
- "River"
- "Momma Mary" (feat. Amythyst Kiah)
- "O Tannenbaum" (feat. Trans Voices)
- "Last Christmas"
- "Silent Night" (feat. Joy Oladokun)
- "Merry Christmas" (feat. Martin Short)
"To An Empath at Christmas Time" and "Christmas on the Dancefloor" are the two new songs she has mentioned. "River" is the Joni Mitchell classic, and "Last Christmas" is the Wham! song, written by George Michael.
The guests
The lead single is "Beautiful Star of Bethlehem", an old gospel hymn that The Judds made a country favourite, here with Brandi Carlile and the actor and banjo player Steve Martin. Martin Short closes the record on "Merry Christmas", and Joy Oladokun takes the second verse of "Silent Night". Amythyst Kiah, a Tennessee singer known for blues and Appalachian folk, joins on "Momma Mary", and the choir Trans Voices appears on "O Tannenbaum".
The album comes out on Epiphany Music through Virgin Music.
Why it is worth a look
Christmas records from rock and pop artists usually play it safe. This one leans into a bit of mischief, starting with the title, and sets a dance-floor original beside Lennon and Ono. We will have a fuller guide when the record is out.
Her catalogue is on Apple Music.
